Prior to launching Hooray, Charlie enjoyed a career in the insurance and financial services industry spanning ten years.
Charlie spent the five years prior to Hooray working at MetLife managing relationships with their key employee benefit consultancies, planning deal-winning strategies to ensure the lion’s share of their business.
Since launching Hooray, he’s been able to provide small businesses and start-ups with the level of customer service he always felt they deserved.

Any words of advice for business owners?
One of my all-time favourite quotes is “An investment in knowledge always pays the best interest” by Benjamin Franklin. Yet, ironically, our clients don’t have to invest any money when they call our services – we offer advice and quotes without charging a penny.
Some businesses make the mistake of buying insurance based on the sales patter of an insurer, without asking an independent experts like ourselves for a second opinion. They might later discover that the policy they’ve purchased is not as ideal as it first appeared – and a better deal might be available on the market.
In short, it’s better that businesses first enlist a friendly brokerage like us as we’ll be able to gather quotes from all the providers and ensure that the T&Cs meet the needs of the business and are fully understood.

Why did you launch the company?
I was working at MetLife looking after some of the UK’s biggest brokers and I realised no one cared about supporting SMEs and there was a huge untapped market. I thought there was something unfair about the way they were being neglected and decided to do something about it.
What is it you’re most proud of about the company?
It’s a tough one between the business winning Adviser of the Year at the Health & Protection Awards and seeing how the team has grown over such a short space of time. We couldn’t have got to the place we are at now without the hard work of each of our staff members and the way everyone’s pulled together as a team.
Do you have any favourite instances where you’ve helped customers out?
Finalising the first ever sale after starting the business – a moment I will never forget!
What is the most rewarding part of your job?
Seeing the team evolve and grow, and helping out businesses who’ve previously struggled to find what they’re looking for. It’s really great to get such wonderful feedback from business owners and HR people – knowing that you’re making a difference makes it all worthwhile.
